Call in an Amp Pro

Many tasks require a professional. Chris is a university-qualified Electrical Engineer from the University of NSW who has invested in having professional levels of Test Equipment and, even more importantly, knows how to use them and interpret the information.
He proudly uses the newest and oldest technologies to solve your amplifier issues. He is just as proud of his 1960 valve tester as he is of his modern digital valve tester or digital storage oscilloscope and LCR analyser.
The Guitar Amp Tech holds a large stock of components including the latest reissue valves and a selection of NOS (new old stock) and used American and British valves from their heyday of the Fifties and Sixties.

When it comes to vintage amplifiers, I consider myself to be an Amp Conservator. We have a responsibility to future generations of players to let them experience real vintage sound and not a digital estimation of that tone. This dedication to authenticity guarantees that every note played through a vintage amp retains its true character and warmth.

One of the most significant costs in an amplifier, and an area where manufacturers often try to save money, is the speaker. The sound of the speaker greatly affects your tone. Allow the Guitar Amp Tech to guide you through the array of exceptional speaker options available.
Fine-tune the sound of your amp. By carefully selecting valves, upgrading the budget valves mass-producers use, setting the bias, or the type of rectifier used we can take an off the shelf amp production amp and bring it closer to the boutique sound that you have in your head. Part of our daily work is also making your amp more reliable and often quieter by correcting manufacturer shortcomings.

I will NOT replace vintage components unless they have failed or my tests indicate that failure is imminent. I am quite firm on this. For example, many technicians might replace all capacitors just because one has failed. This approach is either due to laziness, lack of proper testing equipment, or lack of knowledge. However, for a professional performance or studio recording amplifier, I may sacrifice some originality to enhance reliability or reduce noise levels."
